Artist, instructor and designer, Susan E. Roden resides and maintains an art studio in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. Noted for her pastels, she has exhibited nationally and recipient of many awards including
the 1994 Medal of Honor for pastels from the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, New York and the
1996 Yarka Award from the Salmagundi Club of New York. In 2009 Roden was awarded an
Artist-In-Residence to Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park in 2009.
In 2019 Roden collaborated with Albuquerque’s Aux Dog Theatre and Santa Fe playwright Mark Dunn on
the original play Diptych. 32 pieces of her pastels and mixed media art represented the Artist/daughter character.
Roden’s paintings have been featured in Décor & Style, The Pastel Journal and San Diego Home /
Garden Lifestyles. She received a meritorious award with publication of her pastel, The Wall, within The
Richeson 75 International Small Works 2011. In 2005 she was cited in the Southwest Art Magazine as
“Collectors Choice for Pastels”. Roden’s work has also been featured on the cover of the 2002 Pastel
Artist International Magazine with an accompanied 10-page article of her technique.
As an editorial graphic artist, Roden’s art was published in The Houston Post and Albuquerque Journal.
In 1994 she received two Addy’s from the New Mexican Advertising Federation for her 3-dimensional
paper illustration within Cottonwood’s Printing’s 1995 Promotional Calendar designed by A-Hill Designs,
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Roden is a juried member with the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club of New York, 2019 President and
Distinguished Pastelist Member with the Pastel Society of New Mexico, member of the Women’s
Entrepreneurs of New Mexico, member of DailyPaintworks.com and Artistic Associate of Aux Dog
Theatre, Albuquerque.
As an educator, Roden was an adjunct art instructor at UCSD Extension, Second Saturday Artist Instructor at the San Diego Museum of Art and pastel workshops at OASIS/ Albuquerque. She also volunteers at Aux Dog Theatre, Albuquerque.
Her art is widely collected and represented by Art-O-Mat.org, Jezebel’s Studio & Gallery, Madrid, NM,
Patrician Design, Albuquerque, NM, and TirageArt.com. Roden’s pastels are also included within
notable organizations such as The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation of San Diego, San Diego
